You Have Hobbies?

I enjoy expressing my creativity through writing. I love putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, not quite knowing what will come out. The story I thought I'd write may suddenly twist on me, challenging me to rethink my characters.

But writing is not the only thing I enjoy doing. I have hobbies *shocked gasp*. And when I feel I have no more creativity within me, I'll turn to digital scrapbooking. After a couple days of scrapbooking, I find myself rejuvenated to continue with my WIP.

I think it's important to take time for your hobbies. You might end up incorporating them into your novel (so don't feel guilty). And you might end up trying new hobbies because of your characters.

But even if you don't ever use them in your book- it's still important to flex those creative skills in a different way, and let your WIP simmer.

What hobbies do you enjoy? How has it affected your writing?

Your daughter is a cutie! I agree! Sometimes our other creative outlets can give us a boost in our writing. I love to garden, hike, bike, and spend time with my family. All of it enriches my life and makes my writing deeper.

I used to. I love dancing and cross-stitching and dainty crochet work. But between writing, home schooling, and the laundry, there just aren't enough hours in the day. I am able to read a lot though. :D

What a precious picture! I have too many hobbies I enjoy and am constantly trying to find time for them all :) Lately I am really into music. I play two instruments and sing. I also like reading and hiking.

I quilt. Isn't that funny? I also enjoy hiking and coming up with creative craft projects. I'm of the thinking that another (wo)man's trash could be my treasure so I find stuff from garage sales and repaint and refinish a lot.

I also scrapbook

Fun question!

Does blogging count as a hobby if we blog about writing? It definitely takes away time I could spend towards my writing, but I'm also writing and reading when I blog! My other hobby, painting, comes second to writing, so my painting time is lacking significantly right now!

Sometimes I go to the shop with my husband and build furniture. I love the smells of wood. Hand planing, cutting, power tools. LOVE it!

Then there's riding fourwheelers and dirtbikes. A hobby I picked up after reading New Moon. Heehee. I love riding dirtbikes. Great fun.

I also dance. Belly dancing is one of my favs. :)

I used to sew, quilt, and crochet, but my arthritis keeps me from doing that much anymore. And I'll start scrapbooking again when my youngest is old enough to not destroy what I've done. He takes the fun out of it. (I like the old fashioned way, cutting stuff out and sticking it on the paper.)

And then there's reading. That I do a lot of.

I spend time with my fam and we play games too. We camp and hike. So I feel that at least I don't JUST write. And my family thanks me when I do other things. :)

And C looks sooo cute in that pict!

My hobby helps me write. I make jewelry on the side and plot my books while my hands are busy. To see my other life visit www.bonnysbeadedthings.etsy.com. :D

I enjoy scrapbooking too. I used to be a consultant for Creative Memories, but then my writing took over several years ago! When I discovered blurb.com I got out of traditional scrapbooking and now I'm hooked. I found your blog through Robyn's. Congratulations on your first novel! I write middle grade fiction and I've just started the submission/search for an agent process. But now that my children have only two days left until summer vacation, I'll probably spend the next two months playing referee.
